Does your teenager struggle with her self-esteem? Does she worry incessantly? Does she seem anxious even when you can’t see anything to be worried about?
Anxiety is said to affect 25% of teens, and up to 30% of teenage girls, making it the most common mental issue for young women. Our teens have a lot on their plates – the pressure of doing well at school, sport and extracurricular activities; figuring out social dynamics and navigating the world of social media; hormonal and emotional changes and their effects, as well as adjusting to their role in the family as they grow into young women. Aside from the physical benefits of practising yoga (flexibility, strength, balance, body awareness), yoga can also help ease the symptoms of anxiety. Our 8-week workshop provides teenage girls a relaxing space away from the pressures of their lives where they can learn to de-stress by transferring focus and attention to the body and breath, in turn building their resilience and simultaneously releasing the physical tension and discomfort that often accompanies stress and anxiety.
