Warm up with our Spiced Turmeric Milk (Golden Milk)

Warm milky drinks are the best on cold days, and this spiced turmeric milk is so good for you it can be enjoyed morning, noon or night.

Fresh turmeric and ginger root are used in this recipe, along with the fragrant spices cardamon and cloves and the zing of black peppercorns!

This milky drink packs a powerful punch when it comes to healing properties, turmeric is a known anti-inflammatory and a powerful anti-oxidant as is the humble peppercorn, cinnamon studies show that it may help to regulate blood sugar as well reduce pain linked to arthritis and menstrual cramps for women during their periods, add that with the medicinal benefits of ginger, honey, cardamon and cloves and you see that this ain’t no ordinary hot drink!

Medium sized knob of fresh turmeric
Medium sized knob of fresh ginger
4 black peppercorns
Seeds of 2 cardamon pods (ground spice will also work)
2 cloves (ground spice will also work)
Honey, to taste (we use 1 teaspoon)
1 cup of milk (either cows or nut, we use almond)
Pinch of cinnamon

LETS GO!

Crush the peppercorns, cardamon seeds and cloves in pestle and mortar (or measure out ground spices). Peel and chop the turmeric and ginger into small slices. In a small pot, heat the milk, honey and spices together for 3-5 minutes on a low heat, try not to let the milk boil. Once hot, let the mixture cool for a minute and then pour through a sieve into your cup. Add a pinch of ground cinnamon. I like to add a cinnamon stick to stir the spices around as I drink as they have a habit of falling to the bottom, but a teaspoon will suffice!
